SEE's Directors

Continuing from George and Diana's resume, James oversees our bank account; we send funds every month after a distribution to buy the next month's material for making the pads. James expresses his view of the pad program and why he is our lead man in Uganda:

"We love this program contributing to the success of so many girls. We do schedule all the events and are fortunate to be representatives at many educational celebrations, such as graduations and awards ceremonies. It is a real treat when we get visitors from USA, especially George and Diana."

James and his lovely wife Edith are raising 6 children; James was born in Kenya, and the Luchivya family owns a farm there. James, along with Edith, organizes the Uganda program. Edith is really great as a person who brings everybody together. Along with Dr. Blackburn, who conducts addiction recovery programs in Uganda and Kenya, Edith has taken on organizing and promoting two football (soccer) teams, comprised of young men who are recovering addicts.

Dr. Chris Blackburn

We met Chris and his wife Pat in Malawi in 2014. They were both doctors who lived and practiced medicine in U.K. Chris was a head and neck surgeon, and Pat, who passed away in 2017. was an accomplished psychiatrist. We liked each other and have been traveling together since then.

Their ministry was addiction recovery, using the 12-Step Program, and they traveled extensively, helping many people overcome their addictions. Chris has continued the addiction recovery ministry in Uganda and Kenya, and has established many support groups. Two years ago, he also became a Director with the British Foundation Jacob's Well and has been instrumental in building an orphanage in Namayingo Uganda.

A humorous happening is that Edith Luchivya wanted to work with Dr. Chris in his recovery program, and one of her groups consisting of about a dozen young men formed a football (soccer) team! It was really a lot of fun when we met them in September 2025 - the boys love Edith like their mother.

Bob Hoy

Bob Hoy is a retired Junior High history teacher and girls' basketball coach. He has two daughters of his own, and he loves what we do to help girls.

He has been to Africa with us to witness SEE's complete program, meet the volunteers and see the girls. Everyone was delighted to have him aboard.

George & Diana Franklin

We conducted eyeglasses clinics in Africa from 1998-2015, primarily in Uganda. Traveling around in rural Africa became too much for us as we aged. We decided to quit mission work altogether. We thought we were just too old.

Fast-forward to 2017, the God Thing - we were asked to help girls graduate from Primary School, but our answer was still no. But God placed Dr. Blackburn there listening, and he thought it was a great idea and gave us the money to get started. We bought a sewing machine and learned how to mass produce sanitary pads.

It's now been 10 years and we've grown from one sewing machine and 2 girls working by hand to a factory with dedicated equipment for processing, and about 20 volunteers. We started out working with 2 schools, about 200 girls, and today we have 15 schools with about 2600 girls! So God changed our No to a great big YES!
