Poverty looks like this

• Females in the Third World are treated as second-class citizens

• When girls start their periods, they can no longer attend school regularly, so they give up, drop out, and get married

• Christian girls become a burden to their families because they are too poor to buy pads

• Muslim girls are taken out of school because of tradition and married off no matter what their economic situation is

• If they are allowed to stay in school but don't have access to sanitary products, they are humiliated when they get blood on their skirts, and are too embarrassed to go to school

• Having children while they are still children themselves strands them in poverty
