Welcome to our personal SEE Ministries bio. Here is how it all started. We had been Christians for a long time, our whole married life we had talked about serving in some capacity. We knew that God had a plan for us, and all we had to do is listen for His guidance. That seemed simple, and we started by working in new converts and visitors ministry at our church. Nothing really fit; it didn't seem to be what we were supposed to be doing.

In 1985 things changed; a group from our church were going on a WBS follow-up campaign to Ghana, West Africa. We'd never thought about going foreign mission trips, short or long-term, but this trip was like a magnet to us. No one invited us to go, and certainly no one was offering to pay our way. But suddenly I (George) invited myself to join them. I had a new camera and I thought it would be a great idea to be the team photographer. They said okay but I had to pay for my own ticket and join the team of 12 people from several churches in Texas. Looking back, it's clear that God was presenting this opportunity for us to start on the plan we'd been searching for, offering ourselves as living sacrifices. (Romans 12)

We arrived in Accra, Ghana after dark. Walking through the terminal tunnel to baggage claim, one of my companions said 'hey look! They patched all the bullet holes!" That was a bothersome statement! But by morning I was fine and ready to start the adventure.

After breakfast, I had my trusty camera with me, and again I invited myself to go with the team leader to a church across town. It was raining so we went inside and found several students and an interpreter waiting for us. The team leader gave me a WBS chart and said 'here are your students'. In my mind, I said What! I'm the camera guy, I'm not qualified to teach! But that was the end of my photography ministry! 2 hours later, 6 young men were baptized after my interpreter and I went through the chart with them. Every day of the campaign, every team member and their interpreters had students baptized.

2 weeks later I flew back to the U.S. with a suitcase full of applications for WBS correspondence courses. God had shown me and Diana the door that we had been looking for.
